Legalisation
Legalisation is the process by which the signature and seal of a notary are verified by the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) by way of apostille and/ or verified by the Embassy or Consulate of the country a document is to be used in.
Countries that have not ratified the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 require that document for use in that country be certified by the relevant Embassy or Consulate.
Legalisation by apostille
An apostille is a certificate issued by the FCDO that confirms the signature and seal of a notary are genuine. Documents intended for use in countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 accept an apostille as a means of legalisation of public documents. To obtain an apostille a client can make their own arrangements or give me instructions to assist.
